I predict that in the next 7 to 10 years the testing of your gut microbiome for its diversity (how many species are living in the gut) and for the presence/absence of particular types of bacteria, will be a routine part of the doctor’s evaluation.
Why? Because it is becoming clearer that there is a link between the microbiome and a lot of ‘diseases’. For example, arterial stiffening.
I bet companies are racing to set up the infrastructure to do just this and win potentially lucrative future NHS contracts.
